Incompetence

Parking at Springfield ProPark resulting in vehicle damage and job dismissal.

On several occasions I parked at Springfield Propark and noticed that one particular car was parked badly and taking up more than one space.  The offending vehicle was parked so it’s right front and rear wheel were on the line and into the adjacent space.  Arriving at work one day, I found the lot full and the only available space was next to this particular offending vehicle.  That day I parked my car carefully in the middle of the adjacent next to that offending car.  Due to the closeness of the poorly parked vehicle next to me was unable to exit my vehicle from the driver door or unload my car from the driver’s side.  Having struggled out the passengers side of my car I went to the attendant’s booth and asked that they mention to the person who had parked badly that they should only use one space.

Damage to My Vehicle

Returning to my vehicle the next day, I found that the right side of my car had been keyed the entire length of the vehicle.  Because of my past experience with Springfield ProPark and the attendants there I did not say anything to the staff there and because under the direction from my supervisor Jebb Dennis that he didn’t want to hear about the parking garage.  I also did not mention the damage to my vehicle at work that day.  At this point I just viewed having my vehicle vandalized as the cost of doing business in Springfield Massachusetts, parking at ProPark, and working for Dietz and Company Architects.

Incompetent Garage Security.

Returning to my vehicle the following day, I found that the left side of my vehicle was keyed the full length of the vehicle.  At this point I flagged down the security patrol car and asked the guard to inspect the damage to my vehicle.  He told me that he wasn’t going to get out of his car to look at the damage to my vehicle.  I told him I just wanted him to look at the damage so I could file a police report.  He then told me that he was not responsible for any damages to vehicles in the garage.  I was upset that as a security guard he was not taking responsibility for preventing damage to vehicles in his care.

Trying to make a point I said, “If you’re not responsible for the vehicles in the parking garage, why couldn’t I come back and destroy all the cars in the parking lot?”

To which he replied “No, you can’t do that.”

One more time I asked, “Could you look at the damage to my vehicle so I can file a police report.”

Once again he said, “No I’m not getting out of my car to look at the damage.”   “We’re not responsible for damage to the vehicles in the garage”

Once again I said, “If no one is responsible to prevent damage to the vehicles in the garage, why couldn’t I come back here and destroy all the cars in the garage?”

Once again he said, “No, you can’t do that.”

At this point, I wondered why Springfield ProPark hired security guards for their garages at all.  I then asked “Can I at least use your telephone to call the police to file a police report about the damages.”

He said, “No you can’t use the phone at the office here.”

At this point I was stuck, since the attendant wouldn’t check on the damage that had occurred on two successive days I felt certain he had something to do with it.  I wasn’t going to leave my car unattended in the garage only to return to find even more damage when I returned from calling the police, and I couldn’t use the phone in the garage to call the police.  At this point I drove home and called the police department from my house and reported the vandalism.  I told the Springfield Police Department that I wanted to file a police report for the damages to my vehicle in the Springfield ProPark parking garage, and they told me that I could come in and file a report.  They asked me if I had any idea who had done the damage to my car.  I told them I was fairly certain it was the Springfield ProPark employees.  They asked why I thought this and I recounted the other events leading up to this.  The officer said I should leave my number, and that they would call me back once they’d reviewed the video tapes from the garage.  I never received that call back.  There are no cameras in the parking garage.

Incompetent Parking Management

The next day I went to the person who did auto body work for me and asked him for a bid on repairing the damages to my vehicle.  He quoted the cost of repair at $680.00, which was about the amount that I made in two weeks at Dietz and Company Architects.  I then called Sue Morse, supervisor at the Springfield ProPark garage, and wanted to know how to apply for reimbursement for damages to my vehicle suffered while it was parked in the garage.  I had an estimate and wanted to know the procedure for being reimbursed for it.

Sue Morse said that  she knew who I was and that the attendant had told her that I threatened to destroy all the cars in the parking garage.  I told her that I had in no way threatened to destroy all the cars in the garage, but I was trying to make a point while speaking with the attendant.

Sue Morse asked me who I thought had damaged my car and I told her that I thought the parking attendants had done the damage to the vehicle.  She asked how I knew that and I told her about the parking tickets and the conversation about the vehicle taking up two spaces suspiciously followed by some damage or vandalism to the vehicle on multiple occasions.  She told me I didn’t have any proof at all.

I said,  “I am not concerned about proof, I just want to know what I should do to be reimbursed for the damages to my vehicle.”

Sue Morse said, “Well, you can do whatever you want to.”

I replied, “Look, I have a problem here and you’re not working with me to solve it.  I have had damage to my vehicle and I just need to get reimbursed to get it fixed.  What should I do to get this bill paid?”

Sue Morse said, “You can do whatever you want to.”

I said, “I am concerned about the safety of my vehicle in the garage, since there are no cameras in the garage, can I set up cameras to protect my car while I am at work?”

Sue Morse replied, “No you can’t do that.”

I said, “I just want to protect my car while I’m at work, what can I do?”

Sue Morse said, “You can do whatever you want to.”

I said, “I am just trying to protect my car, could I hire people to stand in the garage and watch my car all day to protect it?”

Sue Morse said, “No, you can’t do that.”

I said, “Look, you can’t tell me I can do whatever I want, then tell me that I can’t do what I want to to protect my car.  Well, if it’s unsafe to park cars in the garage, I feel it’s my responsibility to tell people, could I stand outside the garage and tell everyone as they enter that the Springfield ProPark is an unsafe place to park?”

Sue Morse said, “No, you can’t do that.”

I said, “What can I do to get reimbursed for the damage to my car?

Sue Morse said, “You can do whatever you want to.”

I said, “Can I get an old rusting station wagon and scrawl across the side of it in drippy Krylon, “Ghetto Parking” and park it outside the garage?”

Sue Morse said, “You can do whatever you want to.”

I said, “Look, I’m just trying to get my car fixed here, what should I do to get my car fixed?”

Sue Morse said, “You can do whatever you want to.”

I said, “You don’t want to tell me that again, because if you do I am going to say something even more ridiculous, what should I do to get my car fixed?”

Sue Morse said, “You can do whatever you want to.”

I said, “Ok well in that case, we’re going to have a party advertised all over Springfield MA, and we’re going to invite everyone to your office and we’ll have an elephant sit on your desk as an encore for the party.  Could I do that?”

Sue Morse said, “No, you can’t do that.”

I said, “What should I do?”

Sue Morse said, “You can do whatever you want to.”

I said, “In that case, what kind of car do you drive and where do you park it?”

Sue Morse said, “I’m not going to tell you that.”

I said, “Of course not, then you would worry about your car when you were at work which is the position that I am in.”

Sue Morse said, “This is getting ridiculous, I am going to put this on speakerphone”

I said, “Ok, put it on speakerphone.”  “What should I do to keep my car safe?”

Sue Morse said, “You can do whatever you want to.”

I said, “Ok, we are not getting anywhere with this conversation, I’m going to have to call someone else to talk about getting reimbursed for the damages to my car.”

Sue Morse said, “I don’t have time for this.” and hung up the phone.
